IAA is seeking a Safety Manager who is a consultant and advisor providing support and technical assistance in administration of, and compliance with, federal, state, local and corporate environmental, safety and health regulations and policies on a national level. The Safety Manager maintains site level compliance with environmental, safety, and governmental regulations by identifying and analyzing problems and making recommendations for improvements. The Safety Manager oversees audits to ensure locations are compliant and assists in overseeing environmental, workers’ compensation, occupational safety and related programs in conformance with Federal, State and Local regulations as well as company policies. Perform all duties assigned by the IAA VP of Security and Safety. Must know, practice and ensure that company policies and procedures and state and federal laws are followed at all times.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead, respond to and follow proper procedures on employee accidents, injuries, and loss or damage to any property.  Responsible for assisting in the identification root causes of past accidents and developing proactive programs to ensure preventative measures are in place.
  • Practice and instruct all employees in proper loss prevention and reaction procedures.  Report all incidents properly and timely. 
  • Understands and implements programs, policies, and procedures for: reporting, investigation, and analysis; resolution/outcome management; and the delivery of claim information.
  • Ensures and maintains compliance with governmental regulatory agencies including OSHA, EPA and their state and local equivalents.  Oversees inspections and audits of facilities for EH&S compliance.  Assists facilities with compliance to applicable Federal and local regulations, including EPA, OSHA and DOL compliance (as applicable).
  • Provides facility assistance in developing and implementing enterprise-wide safety, training and loss control programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses and exposure to health hazards. Manages and coordinates various facility safety activities to ensure implementation of initiatives throughout the organization by supporting management and implementation of safety solutions to enhance operational performance. 
  • Coordinates with facilities to conduct safety training of management and staff which includes proper methods for safety instruction and new employee safety orientation. Delivers clear and well-organized safety training information and materials to a diverse audience using appropriate language and illustrations.
  • Resolve employee relations problems, complaints, suggestions, etc. related to environmental, health and safety matters.  Follow-through and communicate employee relations problems to the IAA VP Security and Safety
  • Conducts or directs research to identify hazards and recommend controls to address these hazards. Assists with planned job safety observations, job safety analysis, disposal procedures and personal protective and other safety equipment for the purposes loss prevention and development of corporate standards.
  • Responsible for providing regular status reports for each program and/or facility regarding safety, training and loss control.
  • Assists in developing emergency plans, emergency preparedness, physical protection and safety procedures.
  • Ensure proper follow-through on all directives, bulletins and schedules from the Corporate Office and IAA VP Security and Safety. Maintain a good flow of communication practicing and promoting teamwork at all times. Set a good personal example of attitude and performance.
  • Monitor all area related conditions, property and equipment within corporate standards for cleanliness, proper maintenance and safety. Advise Maintenance of all breakdowns and maintenance immediately.
  • Serves as a technical resource to the internal auditors and participates in their safety related training to enhance the value of the internal audits.  Serves as a technical resource to local liaisons with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.

Educational Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety preferred, or related field consistent with the requirements of the position; Certified Safety Professional designation preferred.
  • Minimum five (4) years combined management experience in environmental, health and safety field.
  • Experience with managing multiple locations in multiple states.
  • Regulatory training or experience with OSHA and EPA. Available to attend off-shift meetings and address off-shift issues
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all departments and all levels of employees. 
  • Ability to travel (up to 20%) and manage activities on an independent basis.
